Sixteen years later, Wii Sports finds a successor. Nintendo Switch Sports is indeed a sports game in motion gaming in the style of the Wii episode. The concept is simple: exercise and have fun. If Wii Sports gave you five sports, Nintendo Switch Sports ups the offering to six. Among them we mainly find novelties. So in addition to the usual bowling and tennis, Players can try it football, volleyball, badminton and chambara (reminiscent of the sword fight from Wii Sports Resort). Each sport uses different Motion Gaming mechanics, more or less advanced, to offer a rich gaming experience.

If you can mimic your throws or racquet hits with the Joy-Con like the Wiimote did in its day, Nintendo Switch Sports also offers the ability to record the movement of your legs. A leg strap (or leg strap) comes with the game. Ring Fit Adventure players won’t feel out of place as this accessory was already part of the armada required for the game to function properly.

One sport, one way of playing?

Nintendo promises us a sufficiently rich content for its game. The six sports are divided into several variants that enrich the experience. For example, Bowling, a great Wii Sports classic, offers alternative lanes with different obstacles. The Chambara plays with the variety of weapons (sword, storm sword, double sword…). In soccer, you can opt for 4vs4 or 1vs1 matches. In penalty shootout mode, you can use the leg strap to score your best goals.

Does Nintendo Switch Sports offer local multiplayer content?

Like its predecessor, Nintendo Switch Sports lets you do multisport sports simulations. That’s not surprising since it’s above all a title destined to be played with friends or family. Local multiplayer can bring together up to four players in the same room. Note, however, that some sports only allow two players to compete against each other due to their dueling aspect. This is the case with chambara and badminton.

What about online multiplayer?

Nintendo Switch Sports seems to be big on the online part. When it will be possible to face players from all over the world through the classic modes of different sports, there will also be small dedicated variants in the game. We know that bowling offers players the opportunity to participate in frenzied competitions with 16 participants, but also with a battle royale between 60 competitors.

Note that you can also play online climb the ranks of the professional league. This ranked mode invites you to surpass yourself to improve your rank (from E to A) in the different disciplines. What do we know about post-launch content?

Nintendo has already announced that the game will receive various free updates after its release. The first concerns Soccer. The latter should therefore combine the strength of the Joy-Con and the leg strap to offer more complete games played both by hand and on foot. The update is expected to be released in summer 2022.

This fall we’re celebrating the arrival of a new sport that Wii Sports players will be familiar with: Golf. Over time, Nintendo will therefore enrich its offer and offer us even more sports to try. Corresponding data miner, next on the list would be basketball and dodgeball. But this last piece of information is not official and should therefore be taken with caution.
