Hollywood star Sean Penn was making a film about Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky when war broke out. Now he doesn’t just wonder which century he really lives in. He also admits to fantasizing about picking up a gun himself.
Sean Penn witnessed firsthand the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine. Since then, he has engaged with the countless victims. The actor even considered taking up arms himself. He revealed it to “Hollywood Authentic” magazine.
When you went to Ukraine, such thoughts come automatically, the 61-year-old explains in the interview. He sometimes wonders in which century he really lives. “I was just at a gas station in Brentwood (Los Angeles) and now I think of making war on Russia. What the hell is going on here?” Penn said. “The only reason I would have stayed longer in Ukraine last time was because I had a gun in my hand,” adds- he.
The Oscar-winning actress was in Ukraine when the Russian invasion began. Penn has been working on a documentary about President Volodymyr Zelensky for years. The war gave a new twist to the film, which was actually meant to shed light on Zelenskyj’s career from actor and comedian to head of state. From Poland, Penn now takes care of war refugees from the neighboring country with its aid organization “Core”.
engagement in crisis areas
In the interview, Sean Penn concretely plays his possible participation in the armed struggle. He would do without a protective vest, he said. “As a foreigner, you would like to give the body armor to one of the civilian fighters who doesn’t have one,” he explains, “a fighter with more skill than me, or a man or a younger woman who could fight longer.”
It remains to be seen how serious Penn is with his mind games. However, the Hollywood star is known to get involved in crisis areas. He not only uses his prominent name to draw attention to the situation, but also likes to lend a hand, for example after the earthquake in Haiti in 2010.
