Rumors are currently circulating that Sony Interactive Entertainment has taken over the next studio with Kojima Productions. The Apple of Discord: An updated version of the PlayStation Studios banner, which now includes Death Stranding.
Over the past few weeks, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Jim Ryan has made it clear on several occasions that his company is looking for other takeover candidates and wants to continue developing PlayStation Studios.
Recently, several insiders pointed out that Sony Interactive Entertainment could have struck gold this time in Japan. This is also indicated by the current rumors in which there is talk of a takeover of the makers of “Death Stranding” from Kojima Productions. The speculation began with an updated version of the official PlayStation Studios banner, which features various studios with artwork from their most iconic brand.
“Death Stranding” was also recently included in said chart. Of course, one can only guess what this step consists of.
An official statement is still pending
For one thing, it’s conceivable that Kojima Productions was indeed taken over by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Incidentally, this wouldn’t be the first time an unwanted leak has spoiled the surprise as official confirmation nears. For example, when the makers of “Returnal” were acquired by Housemarque earlier this year, the Japanese subsidiary of Sony Interactive Entertainment posted the wrong tweet and used it to confirm the purchase of Bluepoint Games.

On the other hand, it should of course be noted that the rights to the “Death Stranding” brand belong to Sony Interactive Entertainment. In the past, officials have pointed out that studios other than Sony also receive the PlayStation Studios brand if a game is produced or funded by Sony Interactive Entertainment.
