news tip Elden Ring: A mod turns the game into a classic 90’s RPG
How about seeing Elden Ring in a new light? That’s what YouTuber Flurdeh offers with his new creation, in which he transforms From Software’s game into a good old 90’s RPG classic for a moment, simply thanks to a mod called Photomode Mod.
Granted, Elden Ring is powered by an outdated graphics engine, but that doesn’t stop the game from doing that BySoftware from perfect to make his exceptional artistic direction speak, to present us with magnificent landscapes. But that was without counting on the community of modders who set out to make it even more beautiful than it already is! Obtainable for a few runes (sorry, a few coins). his Patreon pagethe modder Frans Bouma offers what we will call it a “photo mod” specially designed for Elden Ring that will allow you to perform miracles. YouTuber Flurdeh took it up to transform the imagined universe Hidetaka Miyazaki in real RPG of the 90s.

This is how the mod works: the tilt-shift effect
To achieve that old-school RPG effect, the creator uses what is called thanks to the photo mod The “tilt-shift” effect. This effect, which is also used in photography, is made possible by the lens and image plane of a camera be moved and rotated independently of each other. Here, the videographer can stand in an exact spot, which helps make full-size footage look tiny. This change in depth in the image goes a long way in increasing the sense of distance in the characters. and allows you to create beautiful scenes as you can see in the video above or in the screenshots below:

Through this camera change and the “tilt-shift” effect some images in the game are almost pixelated, accentuating that “old 90’s RPG” effect even more. You actually have the impression of watching handcrafted dioramas come alive in front of us, and thanks to this mod, even the most warlike enemies look much less impressive.
Playing with our nostalgia, this mod makes us dream of a Elden Ring in isometric 3D that we could play sitting cross-legged in front of our cathode ray TV, escaping into myths like Chrono Trigger or Secret of Mana… but a little harder!
Note that Flurdeh is not on his first try with this video on Elden Ring! Don’t hesitate to visit his YouTube channel if you want to discover (or rediscover) cult games like God of War, Breath of the Wild, Bioshock Infinite or Cyberpunk 2077 from a new angle.
