Corona pandemic: seven-day incidence fell to 1001

Status: 04/15/2022 07:03

Even though the number of infected people continues to fall, there are currently 156,864 reported cases, the RKI urges caution, especially at Easter. More than 200 people died in 24 hours. The staff situation in hospitals remains tense in some cases.

National seven-day incidence fell again. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gave the value of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants per week in the morning as 1001.5. For comparison: the day before the value was 1015.7. A week ago, the national incidence was 1181.2.

German health authorities reported 156,864 new corona infections at RKI in one day. This is evident from the numbers that reflect the state of the RKI dashboard at 5 a.m. A week ago there were 175,263 infections.

When considering the values, it must be taken into account that the individual states do not report data on all weekdays and that on weekends, for example, Baden-Württemberg, Lower Saxony, Brandenburg and Saxony do not report data, or only partially. Fewer reports are also to be expected on public holidays. This in turn leads to late registrations on subsequent days. A comparison of daily values therefore becomes increasingly difficult.

In addition, experts have assumed for some time that there will be a large number of cases not registered by the RKI – due to the overload of work of the health authorities and the fact that not all infected people undergo a PCR test. . Only these count in the statistics.

More than 200 dead

According to the new information, 212 deaths were recorded across Germany in 24 hours. A week ago, there were 334 deaths. The RKI has counted 23,339,311 Sars-CoV-2 infections since the start of the pandemic. The actual total number is likely much higher, as many infections go undetected.

The RKI estimated the number of people who had recovered at 19,674,300. The number of people who died or were involved in confirmed Sars-CoV-2 infection rose to 132,900.

Watch out for Easter too.

Despite the fact that the current corona wave has clearly passed its peak, the RKI warns of caution and responsible behavior ahead of the Easter holidays. Infection pressure remains “very high with more than one million Covid 19 cases transmitted to the RKI in one week,” the RKI wrote in Thursday evening’s weekly report, which mainly refers to data from the past week.

The rest of the pandemic remains largely dependent on the cautious and considerate behavior of most people and the extent to which contact increases, he said. According to the RKI, the national seven-day incidence fell by 24% in comparison weekly.

For the first time this year, the number of new hospital admissions of patients with Covid-19 and severe respiratory disease across all age groups also fell, he said. Nevertheless, RKI health experts pointed out that the capacities of the health system, especially in the areas of hospital care and intensive care, are still under great pressure due to numerous corona failures among staff.

It is urgent to act responsibly during the holidays. “Our behavior determines the pandemic,” reads a tweet from RKI. Therefore, the following also applies on public holidays: stay home if you show symptoms of illness, observe infection protection measures, continue to wear a mask and consider risk groups.
