Easter journey: the traffic situation has eased again | NDR.de – News

Heavy Good Friday holiday traffic has caused traffic jams and long wait times on several highways. According to the police, the situation normalized in the afternoon.

Drivers previously had to be patient on the A1, 7 and 31 northbound. The reason was the high volume of traffic. Between Hanover and Hamburg, traffic on the A7 from the Walsroder Dreieck has been temporarily slowed down to a length of 15 kilometers. There was an equally long traffic jam on the northbound A1 between Bramsche and Holdorf. A traffic jam on the A31 between the Bunde triangle and Jemgum also caused a loss of time of up to two hours.

Northbound routes are especially popular

By Thursday afternoon, it had become tense in some places as there were commuters on the road in addition to tourist traffic. In the Hamburg region, for example, traffic was sometimes slowed down, but there were no long traffic jams or major disruptions. For the Easter weekend, traffic experts expect delays, especially on construction sites and on metropolitan highways. Popular destinations include the islands and coasts of the North Sea and the Baltic Sea, he said. The axes particularly affected are the A1 from Bremen via Hamburg and the A7 between Hanover and Flensburg.

According to the operators, things could get tough until Holy Saturday inclusive. Some use additional ferries. After

The high volume of traffic is particularly problematic where construction takes place – in Lower Saxony, for example, on the A1 between Osnabrück and Bremen, on the A7 between the Harz mountains and Göttingen and just after Hanover and Hildesheim. Towards the coast, the ADAC expects traffic jams at the Ems tunnel near Leer and on the A29. Ferries to the islands are also well booked. Shipping companies recommend checking early to find out if tickets are still available.

MV: Crowded streets, especially on Holy Saturday

In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the ADAC expects the streets to be full, especially on Holy Saturday. So far it has been relatively calm and there have been no major traffic jams or accidents, according to the responsible police stations. However, that could change quickly. Traditionally, in addition to Holy Thursday, Holy Saturday in particular is a day when much more traffic can be expected on the streets of MV. In order to avoid traffic jams, the State Office for Road Construction and Transport said it had completed or dismantled some construction sites before Easter. Among other things, the two bridges to Usedom – the Peenebrücke in Wolgast and the Zecheriner tilting bridge – have been open to traffic again for a few days.

Travel probably isn’t as strong as it was before the pandemic

According to the ADAC, the main reason for the increase in travel this year is that domestic travel is possible again. It can be assumed that the traffic jam situation will be more tense than in the last two Easter holidays, because this year probably many more people will take their cars to visit relatives, short trips and excursions in the region . According to experts, the wave of travel is unlikely to be as large as it was before the corona pandemic. The ADAC suspects that many people will forgo longer trips and trips abroad. The reasons for this are the high number of corona infections The war in Ukraine and the very high fuel prices.

Fuel prices: significant price differences

A current analysis by the ADAC of fuel prices in the 16 federal states shows that there are currently significant price differences in gasoline costs in Germany. The price difference is therefore particularly significant for diesel: drivers in Bremen and Hamburg pay an average of 1,925 euros per liter of diesel. For the same amount they have to pay 1,996 euros in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. This means a price premium of 7.1 cents per liter for customers at Northeast gas stations.
