Even after their political careers, Barack and Michelle Obama are far from outdated. In collaboration with the company Higher Ground, they produce the Netflix adaptation “Leave the World Behind”. Hollywood actors like Julia Roberts and Mahershala Ali will be present.
Former US Presidents Barack and Michelle Obama have built successful careers outside of politics in recent years. His deal to produce exclusive content for streaming provider Netflix with his company Higher Ground is once again bearing well-known fruit. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the two have taken charge of a film adaptation of the novel “Leave the World Behind” by Rumaan Alam.
According to the report, the male and female leads will each be played by Oscar-winning stars: Julia Roberts, who won “Best Actress” in 2001 for “Erin Brockovich.” And Mahershala Ali, who even got two golden boys for ‘Moonlight’ and ‘Green Book’ – each as a supporting actor.
The novel follows a married couple and their two children who decide to vacation together in a rented house on Long Island. But then the owners of the house suddenly appear and claim that a sudden power outage has thrown the whole town into chaos. As the strange happenings multiply outside the house, the two families inside become increasingly at odds.
Obama jokes with Biden at the White House
Alongside Roberts and Ali, Ethan Hawke and Myha’la Herrold will also star in supporting roles. Sam Esmail, creator of “Mr. Robot” and “Homecoming,” will direct the film. In this last series, he has already worked with Roberts.
However, Barack Obama has not completely retired from politics. US President Joe Biden recently visited the White House to discuss joint government reform. With “Vice President Biden”, Obama saluted his former deputy Joe Biden and brought a lot of laughter to the room. “I was kidding,” Obama said quickly, hugging him.
Obama then joked with Biden about his favorite pair of sunglasses and his new animal companion: “I understand that the current president has made some changes since my last visit.” “Secret Service agents all have to wear aviator goggles ‘…and now there’s a cat running around here.” His dogs Bo and Sunny wouldn’t have been thrilled, laughed the ex-president.
