A fatal traffic accident claimed four victims in the early hours of Saturday, April 16. The firefighters were alerted at 5 a.m. to an accident car in front of Fnac in Bayonne, Avenue du Maréchal Soult, at the level of the ramp with Boulevard d’Aritxague. Four young people aged 20 and 21the occupants of the vehicle died.
“The vehicle registered in the Dordogne was driving in the direction of Biarritz-Bayonne with its four occupants when it crashed into one of the palm trees on the central reservation in front of Fnac”, declared France Bleu Pays Basque the mayor of Bayonne, Jean-René Etchegaray, one of the first people to go to the site of the tragedy.
The city council collected the same information from the investigators as the sub-prefect of Bayonne. The driver is said to have lost control of the vehicle at excessive speed. “The flagrant investigation by the Bayonne Police Station Accident Bureau continues. A second car?
The investigators are now trying to check whether another car, coming from the Artitxague Boulevard ramp, appeared at high speed, “which forced the driver of the vehicle registered as 24 to swerve. This could have resulted in a loss of control.”, explains the prosecutor of Bayonne, Jérôme Bourrier. For now it is onlya hypothesis mentioned by a witness who saw the accident. Among the four Périgourdins, two hail from the village of Carsac-Aillac in the east of the Dordogne, near Sarlat.
