In California this weekend, William “Glutonny” Belaïd wrote the best page in the history of the French-speaking Super Smash Bros. At Genesis 8, the most prestigious tournament of the year with 1,959 participants, the representative of Solary, after several encounters of insane excitement, managed to win the to reach grand finals. He eventually had to bow to Mexican Leonardo “MKLeo” Lopez Perez, undisputedly the best player in the world. But his career in a discipline historically heavily dominated by North Americans made an impression.
Glutonny, relegated to 9th place, had crossed paths very early on with MkLeo, who had already dominated him (0-3), sending him home loser group. The Frenchman no longer had the right to make mistakes to stay alive in the tournament: he then went on to line up with the most prestigious wins, beating the Americans Kolawole “Kola” Aideyan (No.7, 3-1), Paris “Light Ramirez (#4, 3-0) and most notably the Mexican Edgar “Spag0” Valdez (#2, 3-1). He then fell to world No. 1 again (0-3), despite encouragement from the San Jose Convention Center, untouchable throughout the weekend.
An excellent French group shot
Gluttonny, who has been flying over the European scene for several years, had long awaited this finale in a major tournament on American soil. After several weeks of training across the Atlantic in recent months with the best players in the world, he has finally achieved his goals. “It was my dream to reach a grand final against MkLeo and I made it he responded on Twitter. i’m too happy The next step is to beat him! »
For once, Glutonny wasn’t alone in the trip to California, as a contingent of 23 French players made the trip. On the spot, they managed a nice group shot, as seven of them made it into the top 64. Thomas “Oryon” Scalese, player from Oplon, not necessarily the most anticipated before the tournament, even reached 13th place, to the delight of many Tricolor fans who came to the site. An additional token, if needed, of the growing national enthusiasm for the smash scene.
