World Snooker Championship 2022: Ronnie O’Sullivan passes form test – Zhao outstanding, Page with strong finish

David Gilbert got off to a better start again and cut the lead to 5:6 with breaks of 63 and 82 points. But O’Sullivan remained calm.

When Gilbert missed a red in the twelfth frame, “The Rocket” picked up speed at 109.

Then, in the 13th frame, a fluke helped him get the yellow out of a snooker. After an 81 at 9:5, the match was practically decided. In the 15th frame, Gilbert did not score.

With a 10-2 victory over Jamie Clarke, Zhao Xintong also proved convincing in the second session. Despite the 7-2 lead, he felt pressure and therefore wanted to win the game quickly, he later revealed Eurosport Interview. He succeeded.

Thanks to breaks of 88 and 82 points, he quickly improved to 9:2. The twelfth frame then offered a lot of patchwork, but the British champion did not let the victory take away from him.

Maguire and Murphy in True Crime

In the round of 16, Zhao now meets Stephen Maguire, who beat Shaun Murphy 10-8 late in the night. Maguire had led 6-3 after the first session, but Murphy started brilliantly Sunday night with a 130 and kept fighting.

The 14th frame lasted 70 minutes and was marred by curious mishaps, but Murphy equalized on the black and took the lead 8-7.

On the 15th frame, however, Murphy missed a slight red down the middle. It rocked the game. Maguire was now playing his best snooker. He regained the lead with breaks of 90 and 82 points.

In the 18th frame, Murphy again had chances, but couldn’t turn again.

Rookie Page is in the round of 16

Jackson Page, one of the three debutants of this World Cup and at 20 the youngest participant, is in the round of 16. The Welshman beat Barry Hawkins 10-7. Hawkins had shortened in the second session and kept the game open until 7:8.

But then Page turned up the heat and stormed the finish line with breaks of 128 and 135 points.

In the second round, he now meets another Welshman, either his mentor Mark Williams or Michael White. Williams leads 7-2 after the first session. The three-time world champion got off to a wild start: thanks to breaks of 121, 90, 71, 116 and 138 points, he pulled away 5:0 and also won the next two frames.

It was only at the end that White got his foot in the door and even went short thanks to series of 56 and 68 points. Anthony McGill leads 6-3 after the first session against Liam Highfield.
