Large-scale operation in Ortenau
Lahr and Offenburg stations are currently closed due to a bomb threat. The rail service from Freiburg to Offenburg has been interrupted. Obviously, it was a false alarm.
Due to a bomb threat, Lahr and Offenburg stations were closed on Tuesday evening and train operations from Freiburg to Offenburg were suspended. According to unconfirmed reports from the Badische Zeitung, the police arrested a suspicious man. Other sources speak of several arrests. Police were apparently looking for a backpack on the evening the bomb was suspected.
At around 10:45 p.m., the emergency doctor and the ambulance were alerted to be ready to help defuse the bomb. Suspicious luggage has apparently been found. It was unclear if there was actually a bomb inside. At 11:20 p.m., police spokeswoman Karin Stürzel was “still unable to give the green light”.
By midnight, the special forces had ended the search – without any results. As a safety measure, the sniffer dogs also pass it back. According to Dieter Hutt’s statement from the Federal Police shortly before midnight, there appears to be no danger. The ban will soon be lifted.
Lahr and Offenburg stations have been closed
Police cordoned off Lahr station late on Tuesday evening as SC Freiburg prepared for the DFB Cup semi-finals. Several patrol cars were parked in front of the building, officers with protective vests and helmets were on duty. A red barrier tape blocked the way to the station premises, passers-by were energetically directed to the path.
Suspicious man reportedly arrested
At around 9.30 p.m., Thomas Happersberger, the city’s fire chief and personnel chief for extraordinary affairs of the city of Lahr, spoke of a “very dubious threat situation” to the Badische Zeitung. Apparently the police had received a bomb threat that did not just target Lahr station. Offenburg station was also cordoned off by officials and around 150 train passengers had to wait there. The police would also have been on the spot in Herbolzheim.
