London – Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, is back in the UK again with her husband Prince Harry.

The couple traveled from the London Euston to Manchester by train to the summit of One Young World, where Meghan gave a keynote speech to an audience of 2,300.

The event brings together young voices from over 190 countries with delegates from companies like Audi, Dior, Swarovski and more.

Markle has spoken about gender equality. In 2019, she met Youth Ambassadors at Windsor Castle to discuss the topic.

This is the first public appearance of the exiled couple since Queen Elizabeth II’s jubilee celebrations last June.

On the way to the event, the Duchess wore a cashmere and light silk polo from American brand Brandon Maxwell with wide-legged trousers in the same shade and Manolo Blahnik suede pumps.

Since Maxwell launched his brand in 2015, it has been worn by strong women who often speak out about social injustice such as Michelle Obama, Queen Rania of Jordan and Oprah Winfrey.

Maxwell was the first male designer to wear Markle after her wedding to the Duke of Sussex on a trip to the Commonwealth Youth Challenge reception in London in 2018.

Markle’s appearance comes at a critical time in the UK as the government has just appointed its new prime minister, Liz Truss, who beat her Tory rival Rishi Sunak with 57.4 per cent of the vote in an election process that began in early July.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have not been afraid to speak out against politics in the past, but back home, they would likely follow royal protocol of not showing favoritism on the subject.

At the evening event in Manchester, England, Markle went all-Italian wearing Valentino: a red blouse with wide-legged pants. She finished the look with Aquazzura heels.

The monochromatic ensemble could be a light homage to Harry’s mother, Princess Diana, who passed away 25 years ago last week. Shortly before her death in 1997, Diana wore a red Valentino bow tie dress in British Vogue in a photo by Patrick Demarchelier.

Markle began by saying, “It’s so good to be back in the UK” and recalled the first time she was asked to be an ambassador for the organization in 2014 and recalled her acting days.

“And I was there, the girl from ‘Suits’. I was surrounded by world leaders, humanitarians, prime ministers and activists whom I had deep and long-standing respect and admiration for. And I was allowed in, to rise up a seat at the table,” she said.

“I was so overwhelmed with this experience, I think, I thought I kept the little paper place sign with my name on it.”

The Duke and Duchess will continue their European tour with a visit to Dusseldorf, Germany on Tuesday for the Invictus Games and will return to London on Thursday for the WellChild Awards.
