We often see public comments about the political contributions of dark money. Not knowing any better, some might think that criminals are making secret contributions to a candidate. We hope this is not true! So the question is what does this term really mean? In US politics, the term dark money refers to political spending by non-profit organizations, for example, 501(c)(4) (welfare) 501(c)(5) (union) and 501(c)(6) (Trade associations) are not obligated to disclose their donors.
My question is why all this mystery? The voter should know where every dollar donated by each candidate came from. Perhaps our New Hampshire Secretary of State should be a pioneer in setting contribution rules/laws that require the identity of all donors to be made public prior to every election. something to think about.
