Local businessmen organize a car show to raise funds for leukemia research and awareness

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – A local company is running a car show to raise money for cancer research and awareness.

The Builders FirstSource in Eau Claire hosted a fundraiser to raise $6000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

The money will also go to an upcoming event on Harriet Island, Minnesota.

“We are trying to raise money for the community and light up the LLS nightly event, which takes place on September 22nd on Harriet Island in the Twin Cities,” said Ryan Unger, who organized the Saturday afternoon auto show.

The event was $5 for those who wanted to get in their car or even just watch and enjoy the car show.

“If you get in a car, you get a pingpong ball and that there is a number on the pingpong ball and it is tied to a prize that has already been donated. So anywhere from a, from a six-month membership to a local gym or a hat,” Unger said. It’s all luck in the lottery.”

Builders FirstSource has also put together other events to raise money for LLS, but the idea of bringing it up at the auto show is something new.

“Someone came up with the idea of a car show to raise some money. And we all got on board. And it looks like, you know, we’re spreading the word, and it looks like a lot of people are joining in.”

They hope to bring the auto show back next year.

“We plan to do this for years to come,” Unger said.
