National Lampoon launched its web3 campaign. The company announced its entry into the burgeoning industry with its first web3 studio on Tuesday. National Lampoon has also launched the Poison Pill NFT, which will debut on October 26.
The company began as a subsidiary of Harvard Lampoon 50 years ago, before expanding into other segments of the entertainment industry with film, radio, live theater and more.
Over the past year, National Lampoon has begun exploring opportunities in the fast-growing Web 3 market amid an influx of key companies.
Web3 is generally described as a next-generation version of the Internet that takes advantage of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, augmented reality, virtual reality devices, blockchain technology, and decentralized applications to create interactive solutions that enhance community ownership.
Commenting on the company’s entry into web3, Raj Singh on behalf of National Lampoon said: “Over the past year, we have been deliberating on the formalization of an initial approach to Web3, given the rapid development of the market. NL NFT is a Web3 destination focused on the intersection of artists, audiences and entertainment. Comics, digital assets, experiences, and intellectual property rights enabled by blockchain innovation.”
The company looks to capitalize on the creator-driven approach that web3 offers in collaboration with creating and managing partnerships across both literary and comedic talent.
National Lampoon said it has already forged several partnerships that will be announced ahead of the Poison Pill’s launch in October to add to the already announced collaboration with Monax Labs and Non-Fungible Films.
The company will benefit from the expertise provided by its highly experienced board of advisors, which includes Jimmy McNelis (also known as j1mmy.eth and founder of nft42), Jeremy Dren – co-founder of both Monax Labs and Nifty’s, Cameron Mullen of Non-Fungible Films, and The Gavin Project Gilas in Venkman.
